Casey Gollan’s LinkedIn Tips for Entrepreneurs
The secret to creating a profile people is making sure new people understand who you are, what you do and what your business can provide for them.
According to the site’s official records LinkedIn has more than 200 million subscribers. Many are potential clients and shouldn’t be missed out on, says Australian business coach Casey Gollan, who goes on to reveal how companies can harness the power of the B2B social networking site.
The original LinkedIn site launched in 2003 and today it’s bigger than ever. As a result businesses should be using it to help them grow their business, Gollan asserts in his updated business bulletin LinkedIn Tips for Entrepreneurs.
The first step to LinkedIn is to create a profile, fill out the summary page then sign up using an email address. The email address should be the individual’s business address – allowing them to establish a connection to their company.
In creating the profile Summary and individual with a business should fill in a sentence or two about their company – around two paragraphs in total. Next should come Experience then Education, saysbusiness mentor Gollan.
He adds: “The secret to creating a profile people is making sure new people
understand who you are, what you do and what your business can provide for them.”
Owners of a business can claim their company page on LinkedIn. The connection is made in the system. Company profiles allow businesses to upload their logo and write a summary of the business, including the industry sector and number of employees.
The page can also list the services and products the company sells. The business page also allows companies to list any openings they may have.
To make connections individuals should connect with former classmates, colleagues, partners and other professional links.
The area of opportunity to make new connections on LinkedIn is through an individual’s current connections. The site itself makes suggestions for people to follow in different ways. An individual can reach out and connect with those people then start building a relationship with them via that common connection. Next step is to drop them an email or give them a call, says business guru Gollan.
LinkedIn allows individuals to reach out and connect with old contacts via the search function on LinkedIn.
People use LinkedIn Groups to seek advice on anything including advice on sellers, says business mentor Gollan. Contributing to discussions is a way for an individual to showcase their expertise.
LinkedIn discussions take place in the site’s LinkedIn Groups section. To earn new business with LinkedIn discussions and individual should first go to the profiles of their best clients and find which groups they belong to on LinkedIn then click through and check out the discussions.
Business coach Gollan says that the group may be asking questions an individual can answer and so is already proving valuable to their client. The people they are connected with will get to know that individual and his or her company too.
Discussions tend to be about helping people. As a result an individual has to focus on providing value with their answers and questions. Direct sales pitching here just doesn’t work. By showcasing their expertise and being helpful an individual can create a pull to themselves and their business on LinkedIn. People will see that they know their industry and they will want to learn more about that individual.
People also use LinkedIn to search for new jobs. As a result another opportunity for entrepreneurs on LinkedIn is the incredible talent pool that exists.
An individual should want their business to appear successful and challenging to potential employees. They won’t just check that company’s profile, but its staff and industry connections too.
